Introduction and Eligibility Requirements for

The SHEAF JOAD Club

- in partnership with the “SHEAF Homeschool Group”.

The SHEAF JOAD Club is a group of young archers and their families joined together to encourage one another in the sport of archery. All skill levels are welcome; from the family that has never held a bow to those already accomplished in competition.

USA Archery has developed the JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Program. We adhere to the specific and general rules and guides for attire, equipment, and sportsmanship developed by USA Archery. Our SHEAF JOAD Club is open to youth ages 5 to 20.

The training program we recommend is based on the National Training System (NTS) which is organized around 13 steps of proper stance and form. Learning these 13 steps will greatly help the archer develop better skills. This program is taught by the coaches at ENSC  (Easton Newberry Sports Complex).

As your children progress they receive a pins acknowledging their successes. It is required that each archer become a member of the USA Archery Association once they have achieved their white pin. The SHEAF JOAD  Club requests a $10 yearly club fee. This fee is used to defray the cost of club's membership fee to the USA Archery Association. Your individual or family membership to USA Archery is separate.

The SHEAF JOAD Club welcomes ALL youth AND their families interested in the sport of archery. We do not require a statement of faith, however everyone is expected to be respectful of the teachings of Jesus Christ through His Catholic Church and to be respectful of one another and of all those whom we may encounter while participating in the wonderful sport of archery.

In the pursuit of excellence in archery we offer our efforts to God and will begin each Organized Group Event with prayer. Because we are focused first on bringing God honor and glory we expect all our efforts to be done with a cheerful heart and with Christian charity for each other and those in whom archery brings us in contact.

We, in North Central Florida, are particularly fortunate to be near the Easton Newberry Sports Complex (ENSC). They have a great facility and a very professional and talented coaching staff. We highly recommend that your child or family attend classes and/or purchase a yearly membership at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex. It is also recommended that you wait to purchase any archery equipment until after your young archer has at least completed a beginner’s course. The coaching staff is very helpful in guiding us on when to buy what equipment. This avoids unnecessary or inappropriate spending. Everyone at the Complex is very nice and helpful. Please be sure to let them know how much the SHEAF JOAD families appreciate them.

Our Internet Portal:  http://NorthCentralFloridaArchery.org has numerous links to pages with lots of wonderful archery information. You may wish to look through these links in order to get a good idea of what can be involved in learning the fulfilling sport of archery. While not everyone is eligible for JOAD membership because of age, the SHEAF JOAD Club encourages all family members - including parents - to enjoy this sport at the shooting line along with their children. "The family that PLAYS together - PRAYS together. The family that PRAYS together - STAYS together."

We welcome any questions regarding the sport of archery, homeschooling, or our Faith. We invite your entire family to join us at the Easton Newberry Sports Complex on Sunday afternoons for their Family Fun Shoot. All the equipment is provided, including a coach to get you started and comfortable. The shoot runs from 2-4pm; however we recommend you arrive at 1:30 to fill out the paperwork and get familiar with the equipment. There is a facility fee of $10, but it is buy one get one free. They also have year passes available. To check availability please call the sports complex at 352-472-2388. To ensure that someone from our Club is there, please email us when you plan to attend.  Our email is:    SheafJOAD@gmail.com
